Projekt Jeřábí život má za cíl věnovat se ochraně a monitoringu jeřábů s pomocí barevných kroužků a GPS-GSM vysílačů. Jeřáb popelavý byl historicky ve střední Evropě vyhuben a v České republice začal hnízdit až na konci osmdesátých let. Od té doby je jeho populace na vzestupu a přibývá nových hnízdišť, přesto stále patří mezi kriticky ohrožené druhy, proto je velice přínosné podrobně sledovat vývoj této populace. Jeřábí život vznikl především díky podpoře Zoo Ostrava, dále spolupracuje s Německou skupinou na ochranu jeřábů Kranichschutz Deutschland a je součástí České koalice na ochranu biodiversity - CCBC. „Z patnácti druhů jeřábů patří jedenáct mezi ohrožené, proto jsme projekt Jeřábí život v CCBC přivítali. Ornitoložka Markéta Ticháčková se výzkumem a ochranou jeřábů zabývá již několik let. Má zkušenosti s kriticky ohroženými druhy jeřábů na ruském Dálném východě a v USA, proto je její práce důležitá i pro ochranu jeřábů v České republice a Evropě,” říká Kristýna Nováková, ředitelka CCBC.

The Crane Life project aims to focus on the protection and monitoring of cranes with the help of color rings and GPS-GSM transmitters. The Eurasian Crane was historically extinct in Central Europe and began to nest in the Czech Republic at the end of the 1980s. Since then, its population is on the rise and new nesting sites are increasing, yet it is still one of the critically endangered species, so it is very beneficial to monitor the development of this population in detail. Crane life was created mainly thanks to the support of the Ostrava Zoo, it also cooperates with the German crane protection group Kranichschutz Deutschland and is part of the Czech Coalition for Biodiversity Protection - CCBC. "Of the fifteen species of cranes, eleven are endangered, which is why we welcomed the Crane Life project at CCBC. Ornithologist Markéta Ticháčková has been researching and protecting cranes for several years. She has experience with critically endangered species of cranes in the Russian Far East and the USA, so her work is also important for the protection of cranes in the Czech Republic and Europe, ”says Kristýna Nováková, Director of CCBC.
